Blondes and Bars

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

I have a friend who always has a good story to tell about the things that went on in his life when he was younger.  The following is one of his stories:

“When I was a young adult, it was difficult to get my folks to go to an establishment where they served alcohol, even if it was to see an entertainer.

A friend of the family opened a bar in our hometown where the Farm and Home store used to be located.  He remodeled it, it was very nice, and very large inside.  He would have different entertainers there, and it had a large dance floor.  One night, Marvin Rainwater (an entertainer from Nashville) was playing at the bar.  This place was very nice, there had never been a fight there.  I finally talked my folks into going.

Well, on that particular night, there were two women, one on each side of the room who, for whatever reason, disagreed about something.  So, before the show even began, these two females met in the middle of the dance floor and began to fight.  The owner tried to get in the middle to break it up, but without success.  He had a habit of carrying a large wad of money in his shirt pocket.  There was blonde hair and money all over the place.

Go figure, the one night I talk my parents into going to a bar, after building it up and telling what a nice place it was, there was a fight on that night.”

I hate exercise!!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

I hate exercising in a gym.  I would much rather be outside, playing softball, riding my bicycle, or taking a long walk with my dog.  I have tried gym memberships, but they just don’t seem to work for me.  I used to play softball, bowl, ride bike and dance (many times a week for five hours at a time) when I was younger.  But, since I have gotten a bit older with more responsibilities and less mobility, I find it more difficult to find the time and the energy to go out and do those things.

I believe that exercise is important, and I do not get enough of it.  When you work behind a desk all day, do volunteer work on the weekends, have pets to care for at home, it seems difficult to find the time to exercise, but you have to get out there and do it, you have to MAKE yourself do it.  Not only is it good for you, it can give you back that beach body that you need for that vacation or that cruise you want to take this year.  My kids have both told me about the 90 day review.  They said that the extreme body workout is a great way to get in shape fast.

I am making my 2012 summer resolution:  I WILL get more exercise this year.  I want to be around to see my grandchildren grow up and I would love to have that beach body back again.

This is a guest post provided by Fitness Alliance.

Gotta love that dog

Well, you have all read about the new puppy, Roo.  She is a wholly terror sometimes!!!  She is great when my other half is home, an absolute angel!!  But, as soon as he is gone, those horns come out again.

Last night, she had a good night and slept beside me in the bed.  She woke me up at her usual 4:00 a.m. to go potty.  I got back into bed, forgetting to put my night splint (for my foot) up where she could not reach it.  I awoke about an hour later, to find her on the floor, tearing the rubber off of the bottom of my $100 splint!!  I could have strangled her!!!  She got a good scolding and was put in her crate, while I cleaned up the mess she had made.

If I make it through her puppy-hood, it will be a miracle.

Gear Heads

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

My friend, Theresa, has a gear head for a husband.    He actually drag races semi-professionally.  We have had many a great time at the track over a weekend.   He even made it to the semi-finals for his division once and we spent the weekend camping out at the Indy 500 track!!  It is one of my favorite memories.

Theresa called me the other night and said that Terry was having a problem with one of his cars and he needed to look at automotive lifts so he could get his car up off the ground to work on it.  He has a great garage/shop, equipped with just about everything, except for a lift.  She said he was having some problems with the exhaust system.

She said that he has now gotten into motorcycle racing as well and was looking at motorcycle lifts so he could work on the bike more efficiently too.  I asked her where she was going to find the money for these things.  She said probably their income tax refund.   I am so glad that my husband prefers to watch the racing instead of participate in it.   I could not afford him then.

Walking disaster

So, how does one break their wrist while getting into bed?  Let me explain….

I was readying myself for a long-awaited, well deserved good nigh’ts sleep on Friday night.  I had walked the dog for the umpteenth time, checked all the doors to be sure they were locked, turned off all the lights, checked the kitchen to be sure nothing was left on in there, and brushed my teeth.  I got into my pajamas (yes, I wear flannel pajamas to bed), and proceeded to crawl into bed.  I sat down, placed the palm of my hands onto the mattress and proceeded to scoot myself over further into the bed.  My right hand slipped off of the mattress and I came down on my thumb, bending it completely backwards!!!

I thought my arm was falling off.  It felt as if I had pulled the tendon and ligaments all the war up to my shoulder.  I held my arm tightly, looking everywhere for the arm/wrist brace that I war on occasion when my tendinitis flares up.  I was unable to find it, of course.  All the time I am searching desperately for the brace, I have a puppy following my every step, getting under my feet.

I really wish that I had a camera watching me at times, it was quite the comedy of errors.  I had a walking cast on just a month ago for the bone spur in my foot, before that I was on crutches for a month for the same bone spur, and now I have a cast on my right thumb and wrist because I have a hairline fracture in my wrist!!  I, dear readers, am a mess!!
