Open wide and say AHHH….

What is it with doctors these days?  I started seeing a doctor in a well-known facility in 2005.  Now, I am the type of person who only goes to the doctor when there is something wrong.  So, I went to the doctor because I was ill.  They ran blood tests, asked me when the last time I had my cholesterol checked, etc., etc.   Now remember, I just went in because I was not feeling well, not to have my cholesterol, blood glucose, A1C and all that other stuff checked out.  Well, the bloods tests came back fine.  So then they put me on the merry-go-round of coming back every 6 months for a check up and blood work (this is how they get you hooked).

So, a few years down the road they start checking my A1C and put me on a low dose of a blood pressure medication and need to do blood work every 3 months.  So now, I have to return every 90 days to get the blood work done.  I went on like that for a couple of years and just last summer the doctor said that my A1C was elevated and that she wanted me to start taking Metformin, a drug for diabetics that will aid in weight loss.  But, she said, that since Metformin causes gastric upset (I supposedly have IBS too), she would like me to start a daily injection of another drug that would have the same effect, but would not cause the gastric upset.  She also tried to place me on a cholesterol medication for an LDL of 89!!!

I had had enough!  I went to another family physician for a second opinion and I am glad that I did.  He checked my lab results that I had brought from the other doctor’s office and took me off the cholesterol medication, and said I did not need the diabetes drug.  Do all doctor’s do this with medications and tests?  Are they allowed to run rampant and order any test that they want and put you on drugs you clearly do not need?  I think that the AMA should monitor these so-called “doctors” a little more closely.

Another new challenge

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Well, Christmas has come and gone.  I had a nice, quiet Christmas this year.  I didn’t decorate too much, just a small tree on the table top and a few other things.

I went to see my podiatrist about my foot; I called two weeks ago, when it started bothering me, but with the holidays and all, it was awhile until they could get back to me.  He took an X-ray of the foot and suggested a walking cast.

So, I am now on an air cast for a month.  I hope that this will help and I won’t need to get a shot of Cortizone (very painful) or worse yet, have surgery to remove the bone spur.  That would mean another month on crutches and I still have to walk the puppy, clean house, go shopping for groceries and all the other things in life.  Wish me luck!!!

Just another day in paradise

Well, can my month get any worse?  Now, I have a bone spur on my heel and am on crutches.  It has been there for awhile, but I have not gone to the doctor for it for a variety of reasons (see post entitled “Sickness”).  So, with the holidays coming up, I am on crutches, depressed because of the loss of Pooh Bear and still sick from my sinus infection.

What next; or do I dare ask?  It sure is hard walking a new puppy while on crutches, but it is a new challenge to overcome, and I like a challenge.

I guess I will just push on and take life as it comes.  It can’t get much worse, can it?  I hope not!!

Sickness

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

I have been sick all week with a sinus infection.  I went to the doctor today and was told that if I had waited until Monday to go in I would have been in the hospital.  He told me I got the prize for the worst sinus infection that he had seen all week.  Not an award that I really want.

You see, I don’t go to the doctor unless I am in a lot of pain or really ill.  I know that I should go more often, but with the deductible on our health insurance, I really can’t afford to go unless it is a absolute necessity.

Health insurance companies have a real good racket going for themselves.  Any insurance company, for that matter.  You pay these high premiums month after month and then you have to pay a co-pay and a deductible on top of that.  Most deductible’s these days are outrageous if you want to get a decent, affordable premium. No wonder people don’t go to the doctor and take better care of themselves.  We can’t afford it!!!

I realize that the insurance companies are out to make a profit, but this is getting ridiculous!!!

Dr. Conrad Murray

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Well, they found him guilty.  I knew they would.  But, how many people have taken into consideration the fact that Michael Jackson was a drug addict?  I happen to believe Dr. Murray’s testimony concerning the allegation that Michael had drugs in his system that Dr. Murray denied administering.  Does the world really believe that this man (Michael Jackson) was completely innocent in his own death?

He hired a doctor to administer anesthesia to make him “sleep”.  Any one of us who has had surgery knows that when you are put under anesthesia, you do not awaken feeling rested at all.  It is as if you were never asleep, the passing of time seems instantaneous.  So how could Michael Jackson (or Dr. Murray, being a licensed physician) even believe that such administration of anesthetics would help him to get needed rest?

My belief is that Dr. Murray was yet another victim of Michael Jackson’s strange world.  He was hired to do his bidding, just like all the other people who worked for Michael, and not put up an argument about Michael’s demands.  I am sure he was paid a lot of money too, but was it really all worth it in the end?
